I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses—Johannes Kepler

The changes I would make to make this world a better place if I were President
If I were president, the first thing I would do is to have the military send more troops and weapons when we need to control terrorist activities in another country. We spent years in Afghanistan and Syria. When we don 't send enough troops, things go on forever. Any military action that takes more than 6 months is too long. Although we despise Hitler, he had a good idea when it came to military action. "Blitzkrieg, " or lightning war! We took care of Saddam Hussain quickly. That didn't go on forever. After the war is resolved in a couple of weeks, I would have my military seize money from the country where we have to station troops to pay for our services there. If their treasury of the country does not have sufficient money, we should seize their oil reserves, gems, or anything else of value. I do not believe that the American taxpayer should be saddled with the cost of providing these services to countries that are (or should be) capable of controlling their own people. Once these countries see that they have to pay for our parental services, they will start doing their own job of controlling the terrorists and other criminals within their borders. And to hell with foreign aid. Do you pay people to be your friends? Why should we?
15USC§6101 et. seq says I may sue a telemarketer for$500 for each call they make to my residence, but Michigan law says I cannot sue in small claims court unless I suffer financial loss and you don't lose money by being called by a telemarketer. Most lawyers won't handle a $500 lawsuit or will charge you more than $500. Our legislators should change this law. You should be able to sue for a larger amount, say $5,000 per call, and you should be able to sue in small claims court in the district where you reside, regardless of the caller's location. And the government should expand the law to cover spam emails and text messages. Sign this petition
I am a big supporter of single-payer healthcare. And control drug prices or let us buy drugs from other countries. The high cost of medical insurance, plus the priced gouging that drug companies and healthcare providers do is a strain on everyone's budget. People die prematurely because they can't afford healthcare in the United States.
Citizen's United should be overturned. Corporations should be prevented from making false propaganda statements where they are pushing their agenda to get greater profits for themselves. Many people are like sheep and can't think for themselves
Many seniors fear the court 's tendency to put them in abusive guardianships even when they are capable of taking care of themselves. This happens a lot in Florida, Texas, and Nevada, but is not unheard of in other states. There should be more protection against this happening.
There should be more punishment for companies that practice age discrimination, weight discrimination (illegal in Michigan but not elsewhere,) or chose to hire aliens when there are capable US citizens looking for work. Offering a "buyout" to get rid of older employees should be prohibited.
I am totally opposed to punishing people for victimless crime. Look how much crime there was during prohibition. Illegal gambling ceased to exist when the lottery was created and the casinos opened. Have you been attacked by any gays since homosexuality became legal in 2003? Marijuana legalization is opposed by police officers because they would then have to fight crime instead of harassing users. I think it should be illegal to push drugs, but the users are not hurting anybody but themselves and sending them to prison hurts them more than the drugs will. However, if a user steals or robs someone to get money to buy drugs, they should be punished more severely for that, not for the use of drugs. Crimes where there is a victim should be punished much more severely.
Our system of laws was put together in the 18th century, when a criminal could not harm a lot of people-Typhoid Mary had less than 30 victims. Today's criminals can affect millions of people and cause billions of dollars in damages. You face severe penalties for killing one person but you only get two years probation for computer crime that affects millions of people and causes billions in damages. I think those who commit crimes that injure a lot of people should be given the most severe punishment possible, whether they use a computer or WMD's. That 16-year-old kid who wrote the I Love You virus only got two years probation. He should have had his hands cut off so he could not use a keyboard again.
I have a cure for the sloppy police work too. If you are a crime victim and believe the police conducted a sloppy investigation, you should be able to hire a private crime investigator and sue the police officer or city who conducted the sloppy investigation for 3 times what the private crime investigator charges and three times the REPLACEMENT COST of whatever the criminal damaged or stole.. (The Federal RICO act allows triple damages for racketeering activities and protecting the criminal by failing to determine his identity is a racketeering activity.) So the crime victim gets compensated 3 times. In addition to that, the police officer should be charged with criminal fraud, a felony, and sentenced to a minimum of ten years in prison since he defrauded the city by being on the payroll and collecting money for hours that he got paid for while failing to do the work he was being paid for.
The British Columbia Personal Protection Act In British Columbia, Canada, the Personal Information Protection Act (BC)("PIPA") governs how private organizations may collect, use and disclose personal information. We don't have similar legislation here in the US because the people whose job it is to bribe our lawmakers (they are called LOBBYISTS) all represent large corporations with lots of money and no one represents the common citizen.
